Star Ingredients - Panthenol

Panthenol

Panthenol, the biologically active form of provitamin B5, is a dermatological ingredient recognized for its restorative, hydrating, and soothing properties. Once applied, it penetrates the epidermis where it is converted into pantothenic acid, an essential cofactor in cellular metabolism. This transformation gives it direct activity, supporting energy production, lipid synthesis, and tissue regeneration processes.

At the level of the stratum corneum, it exerts a dual hydrating action: as a humectant, it binds water, and it improves the organization of keratin proteins and intercellular lipids. These mechanisms strengthen the skin barrier function and significantly reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL). Clinical studies show a measurable increase in hydration, on both healthy and damaged skin.

Panthenol also plays a key role in epidermal repair. It stimulates the proliferation and migration of keratinocytes, accelerates re-epithelialization, and improves the organization of newly formed tissues. By supporting fibroblast activity, it contributes to improved skin matrix quality. Its anti-inflammatory action reduces redness, tightness, and irritation. It provides rapid improvement in softness and suppleness, and a visible reduction in signs of dryness.
